Safeguarding

At Who We Are Collective, we recognise that we will sometimes work with subject matter and topics which may prove challenging for the creatives involved in making our work, for audiences participating in any research & development, as well as the audiences who watch our work when its performed. We may be small but when making our work, we are wholly committed to making sure that every person with whom we work can work with us knowing that we provide a safe and respectful working environment, where each individual is treated with respect and dignity. As such, we have created a safeguarding policy based on guidance from a variety of Government, charity and legislative sources, which aims to ensure adherence to both best practice, procedures and policies. Below is an outline of outline of our safeguarding procedures and you can find out more detail by reading our full safeguarding policy here - please do take the time to read it, thank you.

Who We Are Collective will safeguard the rights of children, young people and adults at risk by:

  • Having and maintaining a cohesive safeguarding policy.

  • Ensuring that all individuals involved in making our work are fully aware of our safeguarding policy and reporting procedures for any disclosures and/or safeguarding concerns.

  • Appoint and maintain a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), who will be first point of contact for any safeguarding issues and who will oversee the correct, and compliant, procedures for reporting any safeguarding concerns. The DSL will undertake training in safeguarding and ensure best practice is shared with all individuals working with us.

  • Acknowledge that whilst the work we make may be challenging, that we ourselves are not therapeutic experts in trauma management/some of the challenging topics we explore. As such, we will always aim to seek advice from any partner charities/relevant charities and ensure we always approach our work knowing where to signpost those who may require further help, be that individuals in our creative team, any research participants or audience members: we will always provide information such as charities, helplines and websites to those who need further information on the subjects we cover. Additionally, we will always strive to enlist the help of a qualified wellbeing counsellor to provide support through advice and practical help.
