Our Story

Hello and thanks for visiting Who We Are Collective.

As writers, actors and theatre-makers, we are frequently asked why we do what we do - never an easy question to answer. It was only after much thought and soul searching that we realised that we do what we do because it’s in our DNA, because it’s what we love, because it’s what we’re passionate about…because it’s who we are. And we’re not alone. We’re surrounded by like-minded, creative people - from all across the freelance world of The Arts - all wanting to make work because they too feel compelled, because it’s who they are. It was this realisation that triggered the idea for Who We Are Collective - people who love to create, coming together, to collaborate on making work.

Who We Are Collective doesn’t specialise in a singular art form. Whilst most of us have a background in the performing arts and writing, the collective recognises that artists’ interests and work frequently span multiple genres from theatre to film, from poetry to podcasts (and everything in between and beyond). We welcome collaborators from all backgrounds, appreciating that rich ideas and work can be developed through a variety of minds coming together, with shared-values (see below) and a common purpose. Ultimately, our aim is to make great work in a supportive and collaborative space.

Our creative process varies, depending on the project, subject matter and genre; sometimes our work is script led working with new writing, other times it is devised, and other times it is experimental but, at all times, it comes from, and focuses on, who we are.

Our Values

Our values are simple but of huge importance to us and the way we work - they define who we are:

  • We are supportive: when we work together, with whom ever we work, we provide a safe, supportive space - a real team effort.

  • We are open-minded: we build and work on each other’s ideas, we listen.

  • We are kind: we treat each other with respect and kindness, always.

  • We seek joy: working in The Arts is challenging so we aim to make the process as joyful as possible.

  • We are open and honest: no hidden agendas, no politics - just creative people with a shared passion, looking to make great work. What you see is what you get: we are who we are.

  • We are truth-seekers: we aim to make work which not only packs a punch and explores urgent and necessary themes, but is also insightful and truthful.
